Cowboys' Micah Parsons makes feelings known about $40,000,000,000 per year paycheck
The Cowboys trio of Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott were at the center of a lot of buzz ahead of the start of the 2024 season. CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott got the contract extension they were looking for.
In fact, Dak became the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL, only to miss the majority of the 2024 season due to a hamstring injury. Micah Parsons did not get his big payday, but he could still do so this coming offseason.
On Thursday, Parsons stated his desire to get a deal done with the Cowboys.
"I'm going to try and work with them as much as possible to help them attack free agency," Parsons said Thursday per ESPN. "I want to be back with this team. This offseason, I want to be here. I want to get these guys right. I want to take big steps, so hopefully it can be done sooner than later so we can attack the offseason."
Parsons also discussed the possibility of becoming the highest-paid defensive player in the league. San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa currently holds that title at $34 million per year.
"I don’t need $40 million per year. I need to be somewhere where I can have a lake house," Micah Parsons told reporters.
Parsons is still under contract for next year after the Dallas Cowboys exercised their $21,324,000 fifth-year team option.
Earlier this week, rumors surfaced online that instead of dishing out a fortune to retain the linebacker, the Dallas Cowboys might trade him. After paying Lamb and Prescott, the Cowboys' treasuries are running low. And with the performance they've put up this year, it's clear that they need to make some changes.
Micah Parsons addressed the rumors that he could be traded and said that while he would love to remain in Dallas, he was acutely aware of the business side of things in the NFL.
Jerry Jones shuts down Micah Parsons trade rumors
During his regular appearance on the "105.3 The Fan", the Cowboys owner and GM rubbished all rumors that the team was planning to trade their star defensive player.
"That's never been uttered in this organization that we don't have a future with Micah Parsons," Jones said.
Jerry Jones' strong words came after his son, Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones, commented on Sunday about Parson's future in Dallas.
"Obviously we're totally all-in on Dak and CeeDee," Stephen Jones told NFL.com, "but after that, then you still shape things, including Micah. But Micah's a great player. You don't do well in this league letting guys like Micah, usually, leave the house."
With three games left in the regular season and a very slim chance of making the postseason, the Joneses have some work to do in the offseason to significantly improve the team.
