Cowboys owner Jerry Jones delivers bad news for Dalvin Cook ahead of Week 3

Dallas Cowboys' veteran running back Dalvin Cook was expected by many fans to be elevated to the active roster this week. The lack of production at the position for the Cowboys in the first two weeks of the season had led to such speculation.

However, Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones made his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday morning and said that he didn't expect any changes at that position.

“(I don't) necessarily see a change that would involve (Dalvin) Cook this week,” Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.

Jones expressed his trust in Dallas' running back room and said that the issue was that they weren't utilized enough during Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Jerry Jones put the notion of Dalvin Cook being elevated to the active roster to rest early in the week. Despite the reunion with running back Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys' running game needs to improve soon if Dallas has any plans of being a contender later in the season.

Dallas signed veteran running back Dalvin Cook to the practice squad on August 28. Fans had hoped that the running back would be an X factor for the Cowboys offense, but for now, the fan base will just have to wait and see.

Jerry Jones expresses optimism after Cowboys' loss

Jerry Jones was seen visibly frustrated during his team's loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. He apparently has had time to get over the loss and is now expressing an optimistic view on where the season is heading for his team.

Jones had the following thoughts on 105.3 The Fan in regards to his team's loss.

“If we’ve got any albatross around our neck, it’s that we’ve been a good-to-very-good team during the season over the last 4-5 years with Mike and we haven’t done well in the playoffs. So, let’s trade some challenges during the season for doing well in the playoffs, if you want to look at it that way.”

The Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East in 2023 and then suffered a loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round. Jones apparently feels if his team loses now, they will win in the postseason.

He invested hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to help his team go the distance.

Dallas will now prepare for their Week 3 matchup against the 0-2 Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon at home at AT&T Stadium.
