D.J. Reed makes thoughts clear on Aaron Glenn taking over as Jets HC

Aaron Glenn has a new job. After concluding the season as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, he became the new head coach of the New York Jets, replacing Robert Saleh, who was fired midseason, and Jeff Ulbrich, who ended the season as the interim head coach.

Glenn is a former Jets player who caught the attention of the league for his excellent 2024 job. Although the Lions were eliminated in the Divisional Round, he was able to keep the defense effective even with Detroit suffering a plethora of injuries and missing key players in January.

Glenn's arrival could be a breath of fresh air for a group that seemed to be lost during the 2024 season. Jets players seem to agree: cornerback D. J. Reed expressed satisfaction with the hiring, reacting positively on X:

Reed is unlikely to play for Glenn. The cornerback will be a free agent in March, and he has already stated his desire to test the market and sign with a different team after a disappointing time with the franchise.

Is Aaron Glenn a good hire for the New York Jets?

The former Lions defensive coordinator oversaw firsthand how Dan Campbell led a rebuild in a franchise. He was a key part of that reconstruction, with many pieces turning into keystones of Detroit's defense: players such as Alex Anzalone were not wanted by other teams.

There's also a good connection with the franchise. During his playing career, he entered the NFL as a first-round pick by the team and played for eight years in New York, getting to know owner Woody Johnson when he bought the Jets at the turn of the century.

The most recent version of the Jets was a shadow of themselves, with Aaron Rodgers not playing to his standards and the season going down with internal problems. The new coach will be tasked with fixing the culture in New York, and he was part of the same process in Detroit.
