Dak Prescott injury status: Cowboys QB provides promising update after season-ending surgery
Dak Prescott's darkest moment of 2024 came when he suffered a season-ending injury against the Atlanta Falcons at the beginning of November. However, after hitting rock bottom, he has taken a major step up in his recovery.
According to Pro Football Talk and CBS Sports, Prescott has now driven a car for the first time since suffering the right hamstring injury that put the period on his season.
Based on his current rate of recovery, the quarterback also expects to be 100% ready for offseason work by the time OTAs roll around.
“My plan is to start OTAs and start the offseason no restrictions, full go,” Prescott said.
Offseason training can take place as soon as April 7 for teams with new head coaches. Depending on Mike McCarthy's ability to win over Jerry Jones in the final month-plus of the season, Prescott might be in line to be ready for workouts on that date in five months. If McCarthy sticks around, offseason workouts will begin two weeks later on April 21.
Cowboys stabilize following initial implosion without Dak Prescott
It seemed like the sky was falling in Dallas without Dak Prescott under center. In the first two games following his exit due to injury, backup Cooper Rush lost back-to-back games by a combined score of 68-16.
However, since then, the Dallas Cowboys have put themselves back on the horse, winning two straight games. One win was on Thanksgiving against the New York Giants while the other was a 34-26 win over Jayden Daniels' Washington Commanders.
The Cowboys scored at least 27 points in both contests, leaving reason to believe that Mike McCarthy has found a way to settle in with his new quarterback. The schedule will continue to remain arguably light in their next two games with Dallas facing the 4-8 Cincinnati Bengals and the 3-9 Carolina Panthers.
Following that, however, the Cowboys face a gauntlet of teams to close the year with matchups against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. All three teams are above .500 and unless the Eagles, Buccaneers or Commanders manage to clinch a seeding and/or a playoff spot before their games, the Cowboys could have their hands full.
Will Cooper Rush manage to claw his team back to .500 after it slipped to 3-7?
