“Dallas Cowboys are one of the laughing stocks of the league”: Ex-NFL QB takes aim at Jerry Jones’ machinations
Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel has taken aim at the Dallas Cowboys, who are off to a 3-5 start after a 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
With high playoff expectations and hopes of Super Bowl contention, the Cowboys now face an uphill battle to make the postseason. However, Daniel doesn't believe they have what it takes to turn things around.
Instead, he called the Cowboys the "laughingstock of the NFL."
“If they’re 3-9 through Week 12, you have 5 games left, why are you coming back? If you’re DeMarcus Lawrence and you’re Micah Parsons, who is yet to sign a deal, why are you coming back? What is there to play for? Right now, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the laughing stocks of the league," Daniel said.
"You go back to Jerry Jones saying all-in. You sign a long snapper, you don’t sign a running back. Then you go and trade for Trey Lance, you give up a fourth-round pick. Then you trade for Jonathan Mingo? They give up a fourth-round pick for him! You’re the laughing stock. GMs are going around the league saying ‘I just fleeced Jerry Jones,'" Daniel added.
Dallas has been a disappointment this season, as the Cowboys are unlikely to make the playoffs.
To make matters worse, starting quarterback Dak Prescott is out with a hamstring injury and will likely be placed on IR.
Jerry Jones explains the Cowboys' move to acquire Mingo
Dallas made a surprising move at the trade deadline, acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. In exchange, the Cowboys sent a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Panthers, receiving Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick in return.
Before the trade was announced, Jerry Jones said the team was going to acquire a player they had liked since his college days.
Mingo, who played college football at Ole Miss, was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. In his rookie season, Mingo recorded 43 receptions for 418 yards. This season, Mingo has 12 receptions for 121 yards.
The Cowboys will return to the field at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET in a pivotal NFC East game.
