Dalton Schultz contract: How much did the TE earn with Cowboys?
One of the best remaining offensive free agents currently is tight end Dalton Schultz. The 26-year-old has been the starting tight end for the Dallas Cowboys for the past three seasons.
He has recorded 211 receptions, 2,122 yards, and 17 touchdowns in his career. Schultz has been really productive over the last three seasons as he's caught at least 55 passes, recorded over 550 yards, and scored at least four touchdowns in each of the last three seasons.
A week after free agency began, Schultz remains unsigned. He bet on himself in this free agency and it's not paying off thus far.
In his five seasons with the Cowboys, he's earned $15.8 million. The TE earned $10.9 million on the franchise tag last season.
How much did the Cowboys offer Dalton Schultz?
Dalton Schultz has bet on himself this off-season, and it's literally not paying off. According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Schultz declined a three-year, $36 million deal from the Dallas Cowboys this off-season.
He was a candidate to receive the franchise tag this off-season from the Cowboys, but they elected to use it on running back Tony Pollard instead.
Top 3 landing spots for Dalton Schultz
If Dalton Schultz walks away from the Cowboys in free agency, he will have a few teams interested in him.
Here are three ideal fits for the free agent tight end:
#1 Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears have been in rebuild mode this off-season. They traded the number one overall pick in the draft to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for wide receiver DJ Moore, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.
They've also signed many key free agents such as Tremaine Edmunds, TJ Edwards, D'Onta Foreman, Robert Tonyan, and others.
While they already have a solid tight end in Cole Kmet and a good backup in Robert Tonyan, adding Schultz would give Fields another good target. The team is indeed looking to surround him with more offensive weapons. They also still have over $40 million in cap space.
#2 Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals don't quite have as much cap space as the Bears. But if Schultz's price tag is cheaper than anticipated, then maybe the Bengals can add a good tight end for quarterback Joe Burrow.
The team has one of the best offenses in the league that features Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon. Adding Schultz would give the Bengals a good tight end with them losing Hayden Hurst this off-season.
#3 New England Patriots
Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots love their tight ends. They got rid of Jonnu Smith this off-season when they traded him to the Atlanta Falcons. Schultz would be a good replacement for Smith to play alongside Hunter Henry.
New England have been busy this off-season, adding players such as JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Robinson to the offensive side of the ball. Adding Schultz would add another new playmaker to the 2023 season.
