Damar Hamlin continues to win hearts with incredible gesture for doctors that saved his life
Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest brought the NFL and the wider world together in a show of togetherness scarcely seen these days. Not only were people rooting for an NFL player; they were rooting for a fellow human.
If anything emerged over the last week, it was Damar Hamlin's character as a person. His toy drive, which has now raised millions of dollars, showed his temperament and the way he cares for his community. It has led to a shower of goodwill toward him.
It was again in full flow as he recovered to regain consciousness. The first thing he asked the doctors was not about his well-being but whether the Buffalo Bills had won their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It showed why he is such a popular member of the dressing room.
On Sunday, he went beyond and decided to thank the first responders and the hospital staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, who were responsible for saving his life. He decided to not only show his gratitude through his words but to start a drive that everyone can contribute to.
He released a line of t-shirts that showed his iconic "Did we win?" question that he first asked the doctor after coming around. All proceeds go to first responders and the UC Trauma Center.
