Damar Hamlin win's NFLPA’s Community Service Award for his outstanding service to society

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has won the NFLPA’s Community Service Award as his efforts in his community have been recognized. We all know what Hamlin has been through over the last month or so, and during his plight, it was made known about his toy drive that he set up in Buffalo.

He started the charity effort to buy toys for children in need online and had a target of $2,500. But after his injury against the Cincinnati Bengals, the money flowed in to just over $8 million. Now, due to his service to the Buffalo community, he has taken home the Community Service Award.

Who will win the Super Bowl?

Hamlin has come a long way from the frightening scenes we saw against the Bengals and now looks to be on the road to recovery.

With his off-field work now taking precedence over his on-field work, the safety has another avenue to go down after his cardiac arrest weeks ago. Just how the next few months plays out for Hamlin is unknown.

But while his immediate football future is up in the air, his charity work and his work in the community will be a great second foil as he hopefully works back to becoming a Bills player again.

Will Hamlin play football again?

It is likely far too early to tell if the 24-year-old will make a return to the NFL. Not even two months removed from the horrific scenes on the field in Cincinnati, the safety would be wise to take his time with the decision.

Such was the gravity of his situation, that the decision whether to play football again or not may be taken out of his hands. Given the brutal and physical nature of the NFL, the idea of another hit like that coming the safety's way is a scary thought.

After all, it is only a game of football and Hamlin has the rest of his life to live. If his career doesn't continue, we can easily imagine him continuing his community work in Buffalo and helping out numerous other charities.
