Davante Adams comes clean on Aaron Rodgers’ impact in WR's shocking Packers exit

Just two years ago, the Green Bay Packers boasted a formidable duo in Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, and they secured the top seed in the NFC. However, since then, significant changes have occurred. Rodgers made headlines this year by leaving for the New York Jets, where he hopes to rejuvenate both the franchise and his own career.

Yet, perhaps even more detrimental to the Packers' performance last season, which resulted in them missing the playoffs entirely, was Adams' departure. Despite expectations that he would remain with the team for at least one more year, Adams decided to join the Las Vegas Raiders. Green Bay subsequently struggled, with Rodgers enduring one of his most challenging seasons to date as he tried to develop chemistry with rookie receivers in the first half of the season.

The wide receiver fared much better individually. He finished with more than 1,500 yards again and his 14 touchdowns were the most among all receivers. However, at a team level, he would have been disappointed to miss out on the playoffs as the Las Vegas Raiders failed to match pre-season expectations.

Now, Davante Adams has come clean why he left the Green Bay Packers and it came down to two things. The first was the money he was getting from the organization as his contract dwindled down with them was not something that was in line with what he was expecting. The other issue was the continued uncertainty with Aaron Rodgers' situation in Green Bay.

He said,

"I'm basically on a tag this year. It's less money than a tag and it's no security just like a tag would be. And you know they allowed me to play that whole year without getting paid and then I had another year of what I do and it made it tough on them. And then you know, I had some decisions to make so that's basically what came down to that. And obviously the whole Aaron thing and his uncertainty of his future in Green Bay factored him heavy for me."

Did Davante Adams make a mistake in not waiting a year and joining Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets?

With all the uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams would have thought that by moving to the Las Vegas Raiders, he could at least be certain that he will play with Derek Carr, someone he played with in college. However, that advantage will not exist this season now that Carr has moved and Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be the new starting quarterback in town.

Instead, Aaron Rodgers finds himself in a better position with the New York Jets. Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard join him there as former Green Bay receivers, playing in the system by former Packers offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett. Had he waited, Davante Adams could have linked up there instead of starting with an unfamiliar quarterback this season.
