Davante Adams makes feelings clear on Mike Williams’ future with the Jets
Mike Williams joined the New York Jets on a one-year contract this season, and it appeared that he would become one of Aaron Rodgers's top targets. However, the struggling Jets decided to make a splash last week and traded for Rodgers' former teammate, Davante Adams, from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Williams was the subject of several trade rumors after the franchise brought Adams to town last Tuesday. However, Davante Adams's statement made it clear he didn't want him (Williams) to go anywhere. On Tuesday, the new Jets recruit made his weekly appearance on the 'Up & Adams Show' and was asked by host Kay Adams about the trade rumors surrounding Garrett Wilson.
The All-Pro wide receiver clarified that he wants to help Garrett Wilson grow as a player and that he has enjoyed their time together.
“I believe he [Garrett Wilson] wants to continue to ball out here and build something special with this team," Adams said to Kay Adams. "He’s a special player and I love having the opportunity to play with him and help him grow. Being a young player, he’s light years ahead of where I was at that point in my career. The sky’s the limit for him."
"I just want to continue to build. Me, him, Mike, Lazard, we got a really good room so it’s a lot of opportunities," he added.
Adams also discussed working with Mike Williams to organize the receiving corps as the Jets look to pick up the pieces from their Sunday Night Football loss.
Which teams could be interested in a trade for WR Mike Williams?
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5, and wide receivers are poised to be trade targets for many teams. The New York Jets reportedly spoke with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Chargers about a trade.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have already lost out on Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams and are eager to add another pass catcher. Mike Williams's return to the Chargers is possible, but another team came into the fold on Monday night.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to injury during the primetime loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Godwin is likely out for the rest of the season, and Evans' hamstring injury status is currently unknown. As ESPN's Rich Cimini reported, the Jets shouldn't have any issues finding a team for Williams should they opt for a trade.
