Davante Adams opens up on decision to demand trade from Raiders after reunion with Aaron Rodgers
Two and a half weeks after informing the Las Vegas Raiders that he wanted to leave the team, Davante Adams got his wish as he was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick. The Jets were high on the star wide receiver's wishlist as he was keen on reuniting with former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.
Since asking for the trade, Adams avoided making media appearances and waited patiently for the Raiders and Jets to finalize the deal. In his first conversation with reporters as a Jet on Wednesday, he was asked what prompted him to demand a trade:
"I want to feel like I can impact the game every time I touch the field," Adams said. "Having the confidence that I'll be able to make some plays and change the game, if need be, versus getting out there on the field and feeling like we need too many things to go right in order for me to be successful."
Adams also claimed he didn't necessarily want Las Vegas to build their offensive playbook around him but felt their playcalling was equipped to get the best out of him.
"And when I say, 'me be successful,' I don't mean me going out and having an All-Pro year every time... Sometimes you've got to make it easier and get to a situation that allows you to be yourself," he added.
Will Davante Adams play for the Jets in Week 7?
The New York Jets wasted no time in adding Davante Adams to their ranks following their Monday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills which saw them drop to 2-4. However, there were concerns about whether he'd be available to play in their Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
Adams missed the Raiders' last three games with a hamstring injury and there was no timeline for his return. However, the Jets' interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich confirmed that the six-time Pro Bowler will make his debut for the team on Sunday against the Steelers.
The veteran wide receiver's availability is a massive boost for Aaron Rodgers, who's yet to have a 300-yard passing game as a Jet. Perhaps he'll break that duck in Week 7 and end New York's three-game losing streak.
