Davante Adams to Ravens? Maryland Governor makes pitch in sweepstakes for $140,000,000 Raiders All-pro
Many saw Davante Adams' trade request as a foregone conclusion with ESPN's Dan Orlovsky among the names who had, at the start of the season, suggested the All-Pro wide receiver wouldn't be with the Las Vegas Raiders for too long.
Adams officially requested a trade away from the franchise on Tuesday, October 1, and while the New York Jets are favorites to swing the trade owing to the presence of Aaron Rodgers, a few more names have also been linked with a move for Adams.
After Adams posted a picture of Edgar Allen Poe on Instagram yesterday, speculation ran wild over whether that was a hint about where he wanted to go. Maryland Governor Wes Moore saw that as his opportunity to make a pitch for the Raiders' $140 million man, penning a post on social media platform X, saying:
"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over Davante and his career, we know how he would win rings here."
The 31-year-old Adams is in the third year of the five-year, $140 million deal he signed with the Raiders in 2022. At the time, the Raiders coughed up a first- and second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to prise him away from the Green Bay Packers.
Could Davante Adams go to the Baltimore Ravens?
It would take a LOT of cap space wizardry for Ravens GM Eric DeCosta to swing a trade for Davante Adams. Per Over the Cap, the Ravens currently have about $4 million in cap space. Any team that wants to trade for Adams will need about $13.5 million in cap space to make it work.
NFL insider Josina Anderson also reported there is "nothing going on" between the Ravens and Davante Adams.
Sportskeeda insider Tony Pauline noted that there are four teams that are currently pondering a trade for Davante Adams - the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints.
Adams has also been linked with the Kansas City Chiefs since Rashee Rice suffered a major (and potentially season-ending) injury, though the Raiders would have to eat a little of Adams' salary to make that happen.
