Davante Adams says Aaron Rodgers has been in his ear as rumors of potential blockbuster reunion refuse to die down

Aaron Rodgers is fully healthy to start the season, and expectations have once again skyrocketed for the New York Jets. The AFC East franchise is coming off a season in which they finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs again. However, now that the team has made some smart offseason moves and their star quarterback looks healthy, fans are optimistic about their chances of contending this offseason.

Ever since Rodgers arrived in New York, there have been rumors of a potential reunion with star wide receiver Davante Adams. The 31-year-old wide receiver signed a five-year, $140 million contract extension with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, but despite that, his name has always floated in trade discussions.

Adams was recently asked by Kay Adams about whether there is a possibility that the iconic QB-WR duo could be seen playing together again. He said:

“He’s in that ear, that’s for sure. He’s in the ear, but it’s not easy. Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that but I’m a Raider and he knows that.”

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have a great relationship and have often been seen together in the offseason, even though they no longer play together. As a result, as long as Rodgers plays football, there will always be rumors about his team trading for the star wideout.

Adams played 108 games with Rodgers as his quarterback. In those games, he had 622 receptions for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns (per StatMuse).

Can the Jets afford an Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams reunion?

Although Davante Adams has had two good seasons on a personal level with the Raiders, the lack of team success could force him to hand in a trade request. If that happens around the trade deadline this year, the New York Jets will be the frontrunners to land him.

However, to afford Aaron Rodgers' former teammate, the Jets will be required to make other moves to create cap space. As per Spotrac, the Jets currently have $6.09 million in cap space and will have close to $63 million in cap space next year. Adams still has two years left on his deal and will earn a base salary of close to $35 million in 2025 and 2026.

The Jets currently have Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Allen Lazard, Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley as their primary receivers. The addition of Adams will certainly make them a serious Super Bowl contender, as they already have one of the best defenses in the league.

However, everything will depend on how the Raiders and Jets start their season. If the Jets stay healthy and Aaron Rodgers plays well while the Raiders struggle, nobody will be surprised if Jets general manager Joe Douglas pursues Adams aggressively.
