Davante Adams' take on switching from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr following Raiders trade has aged horribly

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams joined the Las Vegas Raiders in a blockbuster trade deal in the 2022 offseason. The Raiders parted ways with their first- and second-round picks in the 2022 NFL draft to land the superstar and reunite him with his college quarterback Derek Carr.

Adams decided to leave two-time reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to play with his friend from college, and many believed that he was downgrading. However, he claimed the move would only require him to make minor adjustments, saying:

“Any time you change quarterbacks from Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer, you go Stabler to Rich Gannon, it’s going to be a little bit of an adjustment. Both are great players and great to be around.”

When asked to clarify his claim, Davante Adams doubled down, saying:

“What I’m not going to do is take away from that statement because, why is Derek not a Hall of Famer? What I meant, I left one keyword out of there because that’s not exactly what I meant.
“But I do think that Derek’s career is Hall of Fame-worthy, and why not? Does he have the MVPs right now? No. Has he won a Super Bowl? Not yet. That’s obviously what we’re chasing."

He added:

“But what I meant to say was, ‘Even if you go Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer, it’s an adjustment.’ I wasn’t saying, ‘Hall of Famer Aaron to Hall of Famer Derek.’ So, I’m not retracting my statement at all.”

While the optimism was commendable, Adams' prediction couldn't have been more wrong.

Davante Adams gamble fails as Raiders move on from Derek Carr

The Las Vegas Raiders announced on Wednesday that the team will bench Derek Carr and play Jarrett Stidham in the final two regular-season games.

Head coach Josh McDaniels also suggested that the team will be looking to move on from Carr in the offseason. This comes only a year after handing the quarterback a three-year, $121.5 million extension.

Raiders are benching Derek Carr and turning to Jarrett Stidham as their new starting QB.

Carr has thrown a league-leading 14 interceptions— including three Saturday night during a 13-10 loss to the Steelers.

Stidham has thrown only 61 passes and never has started an NFL game. https://t.co/IJa1LfYGXT

Davante Adams, who has had a productive season, gambled when he switched from the Packers to the Raiders. It has backfired spectacularly after only one season.

Adams will take solace in the fact that the Raiders made him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league, handing him a five-year, $140 million extension in the offseason. However, his decision to go from Rodgers to Carr hasn't paid the dividends he'd hoped for.
