Davante Adams trade to rejoin Aaron Rodgers “makes no sense” to former Jets player

Rumors of a reunion between Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams have run wild since last season. Since Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, many have speculated that Adams may not be too far behind.

Former offensive guard turned ESPN analyst Damien Woody gave his take on the trade rumors on Friday's episode of "Get Up". Woody said he expects Garrett Wilson to have a good season in 2024 with a healthy Rodgers running the offense:

"We haven't even seen Garrett Wilson go off yet. No. Like I'm waiting. That's what I'm waiting to see. I'm waiting to see Garrett Wilson with a legit quarterback go off. And we're all really trying to put Davante Adams on this roster?" [04:41]

He said many fans are forgetting that wide receiver Mike Williams signed with the New York Jets this offseason, and he could also be a valuable offensive weapon for Rodgers. Woody added that there wouldn't be enough opportunities for all three receivers to coexist in the offense.

"Oh, by the way, did we forget about Mike Williams, that big free agent signing that the Jets had this offseason? Like, Mike Williams is like the perfect complement to Garrett Wilson. So, how many footballs can you possibly— can possibly go around if you're going to add a Davante Adams with those other two guys I just mentioned, it makes no sense to me."[04:54]

Another aspect of a trade for Adams would be that the Las Vegas Raiders' asking price is sure to be hefty for the wide receiver.

Davante Adams confirmed that Aaron Rodgers is "in his ear" about trade

Wide receiver Davante Adams was a guest on Kay Adams' "Up and Adams" show this week and was asked if there was a chance he could reunite with Rodgers. He said Rodgers has been "in the ear" about a possible reunion.

The wide receiver then said that he and Rodgers can reminisce all they want, but he is committed to the Las Vegas Raiders:

“He’s in that ear, that’s for sure. He’s in the ear, but it’s not easy. Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that but I’m a Raider and he knows that.”

While participating in the annual celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe this weekend, Aaron Rodgers made a sly remark, voicing his admiration for Adams:

“I love Davante Adams. I can’t wait to play with him…again.”

Of course, it's not unusual for Rodgers to play into a rumor about a roster move. Whether the New York Jets are actually in the market for Adams, though, remains to be seen.
