DeAndre Hopkins sends emotional four-word message to late father before Chiefs debut vs Raiders
DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in the hopes that he would bring some firepower to the Chiefs' lack-luster offense. He gets his first chance today as the Chiefs take on the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the league, but lost against the division-rival Raiders on Christmas Day, 2023. Now ahead of today's game, DeAndre Hopkins is invoking thoughts of his late father.
He took to Instagram to post a picture of a folded Chiefs jersey along with a pair of white cleats. On one of the cleats, he had written a heartfelt message to his late father.
"Know you watching Pops."
Hopkins, unfortunately, did not get to know his father, Harris Steve Hopkins, as he passed away in a car accident when he was just five-months-old. His mother, Sabrina Greenlee, raised him alone.
His late father would surely be proud of his son who has made waves in the NFL and has emerged as one of its best wide receivers. Now that he is with the Chiefs, can he add another career highlight and win his first Super Bowl?
Travis Kelce and DeAndre Hopkins head-to-head in major stat
Hopkins has the longest streak in the NFL right now of games with at least one catch at 168. Guess who is close behind at number 2 with 164 games? Chiefs’ TE, and now DeAndre Hopkins’ teammate, Travis Kelce at 164.
Mahomes now has two of the most reliable offensive weapons in the league on his team right now. The Chiefs themselves had shared this piece of trivia soon after they brought Hopkins on board in a conditional fourth-round pick from the Tenessee Titans.
However, it doesn’t seem like the Chiefs are satisfied with Hopkins. Their search for more offensive weapons amid key injuries such as Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is still on.
In a recent episode of The RIch Eisen Show, insider Tom Pelissero told Rich that the Chiefs are still on the market and are hunting for more players to add to their team.
“The Chiefs are definitely going to continue to be in the market. Brett Veach has shown over time that he's willing to do it."
With the November 5 trade deadline inching closer, will the Chiefs close more blockbuster deals as they aim at a three-peat for the first time in the league’s history?
