Death, taxes, Derrick Henry stomping over the Texans: Titans RB makes history after racking up 13th TD vs. Houston
Heading into 2022. Derrick Henry was known by many to be good, but today's effort is putting him into a unique statosphere. The running back scored his 12th touchdown of the season against the Houston Texans during their divisional showdown on Christmas Eve.
The running back's 12th touchdown also set a record, according to Scott Hanson of the NFL Redzone. Speaking in the moments after the running back gashed the Texans for a massive touchdown, the broadcaster announced he had scored more touchdowns against the Texans than anyone else had in NFL history.
Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry's rise to record-breaking fame
After domination in high school and college, the running back was originally drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Initially, the back got off to a slow start with the franchise. Unlike many highly-drafted rookie running backs, he failed to reach 500 yards in his first season. In his second season, while better, he also failed to reach 800 yards.
However, after two sluggish years, Henry finally popped in 2018. At the end of the year, he had rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. He also recorded a 99-yard touchdown run. The following year, he beat his production by 50 percent.
In 2019, Henry rushed for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns. After the final whistle, most expected an end to his pattern of beating his previous production from the previous season. Instead, he blew the numbers out of the water in 2020, rushing for more than 2,000 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns. He also had a touchdown from 98 yards away.
In 2021, after so much production in his career, fans braced for him to suffer an injury as many bell cow backs often do. While he only played in eight games in 2021, he rushed for almost 1,000 yards and scored ten times.
In 2022, heading into the game against the Texans, he had rushed for 1,303 yards and 12 touchdowns.
