“Ain’t seen nothing like it” – Deebo Samuel reveals Kyle Shanahan’s reaction to 49ers’ crushing loss to Eagles
San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel made an appearance on ESPN's First Take and spoke with the crew about his team's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The 49ers' season ended with a 31-7 blowout loss to the Eagles in the NFC Championship game.
Samuel said the loss and circumstances were so surprising that head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's never seen anything like it in his career.
"As you go back and look at it, it's crazy. Even talking to Kyle about it in his career of coaching, he said he never see anything and he even talking to his dad, he ain't seen nothing like it either. The team was beat up, the team was down, the team was sad, but it really didn't hit as hard as it was supposed to if that makes sense."
Samuel insinuated that he wishes the team had activated Jimmy Garoppolo for the game and if they did, it probably would have been a different outcome.
"At the end of the day, we knew when [we] lost both of our quarterbacks, it's like what are we going to do? It's like, you really don't have a chance at this point. It hurt for sure, but I wish we took one more quarterback into that game, and it probably would've been a different outcome."
The San Francisco 49ers got unlucky with quarterback injuries during the NFC Championship game
It isn't any excuse as to why they lost, but the San Francsico 49ers got very unlucky in the NFC Championship game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.
San Fran suffered injuries for both their active quarterbacks in the game. Starting QB Brock Purdy injured his elbow in the first quarter and it would later be revealed that he suffered a torn UCL.
His backup, veteran Josh Johnson, also suffered an injury that knocked him out of the game. He hit the ground and his head slammed onto the field, causing him to suffer a concussion and he didn't return to the game.
Purdy came back in during the third quarter and only threw the ball twice after trailing the rest of the game, as he was unable to throw with his injured elbow. The 49ers ended up suffering a 31-7 loss.
