Derek Carr’s brother gives his verdict on Raiders QB’s future
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to trade Derek Carr in the coming weeks as both parties want a fresh start. The Raiders benched Carr at the end of the season, surprising many, and it was later revealed that the franchise is eager to move on from him.
Multiple teams will be interested in having Carr, but nobody knows if the Raiders will be able to get enough in return. Carr's brother David Carr recently spoke about his brother's future on NFL Network.
Here's what David Carr said about the Raiders quarterback's future:
"He's got a decision to make. The interesting part with this is the Raiders are kind of, they're in control of the situation on the outside. For right now. The problem is they don't have any leverage. Let's just be honest, they don't have leverage to trade. Would you trade with the team for Derek, if you knew that they were gonna have to release him soon or pay $40 million."
Carr added:
"I mean, that just doesn't make any sense. Right? So I think that we're just kind of in a waiting period right now. But at the same time, it's gonna be interesting because he's not necessarily looking for multiple teams to bid for services. That's not where he's at. He's completely content not playing football, but he's gonna play football.
"So what does that mean? He wants to have a chance to play for Lombardi trophies, he's always wanted since he was seven years old, he's wanting to play to win the game. He doesn't care. So about all the other stuff that goes into that, he's made a ton of money, he wants to win."
He continued:
"He wants to be in a stable situation with a good organization that plays good defense that has some good playmakers with a coaching staff and there are some coaches out there that believe in him that will let him let him do his thing."
It's true that the Las Vegas Raiders have no leverage with Carr as teams will not look to give away a lot of draft assets to acquire the quarterback. However, the Raiders might trade him off cheaply as they have their eyes focused on Tom Brady.
Tom Brady will be a free agent soon, and the Raiders are expected to be at the forefront of the race to land him. The presence of Josh McDaniels as the head coach will help the franchise in its pursuit of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' QB.
Which team will be best for Derek Carr?
The New York Jets are the ideal destination for Derek Carr, but Aaron Rodgers is the franchise's top target. If they are unable to sign Rodgers, the Jets will most likely pursue Carr.
Another team that could want Derek Carr could be the Washington Commanders. They need a new quarterback and the arrival of Carr could make them a playoff contender in a weak NFC.
It would be interesting to see where Derek Carr goes as he has the potential to turn around the fate of a couple of franchises in the NFL.
