Dez Bryant sparks debate over gender controversy following Imane Khelif’s Olympic win
Dez Bryant, along with other athletes across the world, have not shied away from giving their opinion on boxer Imane Khelif's win in the Olympics after Italian Angela Carini pulled out of their bout.
In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) conducted the World Championship, where Khelif could not participate after failing to clear the IBA's gender eligibility test. The criteria didn't allow someone with more XY chromosomes or testesterone levels, which were more than normal.
However, the International Olympics Committee didn't allow IBA to conduct the boxing event in the ongoing Olympics, citing a lack of transparency. Khelif did not violated any of IOC's eligibility rules for the event and was allowed to compete.
Bryant however did not seem to agree with Khelif's participation, posting on X:
"God made you a woman for a reason. God made you a man for a reason. God didn’t put you in a foreign body, also, Men shouldn’t be able to compete in women divisions. My opinion"
The former Dallas Cowboys receiver faced criticsm from people on social media, and later he posted another long message. He added:
"God created a lot of beautiful things but I know damn well he didn’t create us to be gay…. I don’t have problems with gays just my beliefs. My mama gay/and she’s free to do as she please. God didn’t make Adam to be with another Adam. God said Adam wasn’t meant to be alone so he made Eve. They both have certain parts for a reason. You have men trying to get pregnant… that’s not what’s up", wrote Dez Bryant
Despite the fact Khelif was born as a female with high testosterone levels, the hoax about her being a biological male spread like wildfire and has resulted in a large-scale fiasco.
This whole controversy is likely to go on for many days, as everyone has different views. Reports indicate that Khelif was rightly eligible to compete in the Olympics, but people with different views are still opposed to that.
Sauce Gardner alligned with Dez Bryant's views
Apart from Dez Bryant, New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner also reacted to the Imane Khelif situation. Gardner posted a GIF expressing his stance of 'No' when a fan asked him about whether biologically born men should be able to compete against women.
However, since Khelif was born as a female, the situation is completely different. Pat McAfee also talked about the topic, and he left the decision to the people organizing the events, which is the right choice.
