Did Jalen Hurts suffer a concussion? Eagles QB hitting ground hard, motioning for help has NFL fans speculating
Jalen Hurts took off on a huge run during the second quarter, converting a fourth-and-5 that led to a Philadelphia Eagles touchdown. After converting the run, Hurts hit the ground pretty hard and his head bounced off the turf. He appeared to motion for help.
He stayed in the game and ended up scoring a rushing touchdown to give the Eagles the lead again. Was this play worthy of Hurts being pulled?
The Eagles didn't do so and the NFL's spotter didn't seem to think it was an issue, but many NFL fans are wondering. Losing a starting quarterback in the biggest game of the year would deplete the quality of the game, so the NFL wouldn't want to let that happen.
Additionally, they're not known to take head injuries as seriously as they should, a fact some NFL fans have referenced.
Many NFL fans believe the league should have stepped in and removed him from the game, at least temporarily. The simple fact that the third-year quarterback had to ask for help to get up should have been enough for him to be evaluated, but no such inquiry was made.
It's likely Hurts wouldn't have wanted to leave. It's the biggest game of his life and he's not guaranteed another shot at playing in it. But all of that pales in comparison to his health.
If he suffered a head injury, that's bad. If he suffered it and the Eagles and NFL didn't even bother to evaluate him, it looks even worse. The NFL is already in hot water for what happened with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but this is on a much bigger stage.
How is Jalen Hurts doing at halftime?
Despite the potential concussion, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles look good at the half. They have a 24-14 lead and Hurts has played well and could be en route to a Super Bowl MVP award.
He's rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, the first player to do that in Super Bowl history. He does have a crucial fumble, which the Chiefs returned for one of their two touchdowns.
