Did Josh McDaniels ruin Darren Waller’s secret proposal? Ex-Raiders TE dishes details after Kelsey Plum’s Twitter burn

Former Las Vegas Raiders and current New York Giants tight end Darren Waller married WNBA star Kelsey Plum on March 4, 2023. Plum plays for the Las Vegas Aces. The two became the newest power sports couple in the industry and were set to become an iconic Las Vegas sports couple.

Leading up to their wedding, Waller told head coach Josh McDaniels that he was going to get married and wanted to keep it a secret.

Waller confirmed to AP NFL writer Rob Maaddi that McDaniels may have spilled the beans about his upcoming nuptials.

Waller said:

"I actually did see that. So it actually kind of ties into the whole wedding thing with Josh. Like I told him I wanted to keep, ultimately, like completely private from the team. And I told him so that the Thursday through Sunday, which were mandated to get off by League, that was when I proposed to Kelsey. So I was going there and didn't really want to share with anyone. And I was like, 'Yeah, I'm just going here.'"

Waller added:

"And that's where I'm going to be because you're mandated to get off Thursday from Sunday. And that's what I did. And, you know, I eventually told Josh, and that's how he knew and was, you know, able to, by mistake, tell the reporters that my wedding was happening, but I wanted to keep it ultimately private. So that's why I didn't tell anybody where I was going from that Thursday to Sunday."

On March 15, 2023, Darren Waller was traded to the New York Giants in exchange for New York's third-round pick.

Via the Giants' website, Waller said that he's excited to be a part of the New York Giants.

Waller said:

"Meeting some guys today in the cafeteria and the locker room, they just radiate with humility. I really respect that. Guys that are so talented and that have a lot of upside and are just really stepping into their prime as players, I'm excited to be with them, to be friends of theirs, to just grow and to do whatever it takes to go where everybody knows this team can go."

Injuries have plagued Darren Waller's production the last two seasons. In 2019 and in 2020, he recorded two-straight 1,000-plus yard seasons.

He's been limited to 20 games the last two seasons which saw him record 83 catches for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns.

If healthy, Waller has the chance to become one of the best tight ends in 2023.
