Divorce attorney explains how Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady were smarter than most celebrity couples in handling divorce

The news of Tom Brady's divorce from former Victoria's Secret supermodel Gisele Bundchen comes as no surprise to NFL fans. After months of reports speculating about a rift between the couple, the two finally made their decision official this past week.

Sharing over $26 million in properties and assets, the two have some work cut out for themselves. Divorce attorney Jacqueline Newman, though, believes that the couple have been smart in handling this sensitive matter:

"They very often will settle behind closed doors before they let anyone in. I think it’s very common. It’s the smarter way to do things."

While speaking to PageSix, Newman also talked about how important it was for the couple to maintain their poise and public image over the past few months. Especially in the face of constant media scrutiny:

"You’re not only negotiating issues of custody and issues of finances, but you also have to be very careful if your public image is very valuable... It’s just smarter not to put anything out there until you’re done and the ink is dried."

The house, which the couple had rented out in Tampa Bay, has now been put up for sale and is valued at $12.5 million. Married in 2009, the couple have two kids together, Vivian and Benjamin, while also raising Brady's son, Jack, from his previous relationship with movie star Bridgett Moynahan.

Miami Dolphins touted as reason for Tom Brady's split from Gisele Bundchen

Neither Tom Brady nor Gisele Bundchen have opened up about much regarding their divorce. However, NFL insider Mike Florio recently floated a theory that some in league circles believe is the cause for the split.

While appearing on Barstool’s “Pardon My Take" podcast, the insider said that word on the street suggests the quarterback's decision to plot a move to the Miami Dolphins was the key driver behind the divorce:

“There’s a theory in league circles, and I think I’m couching it properly, that the issues with Tom Brady and his wife blew up when the league announced the punishment of the Dolphins. Because of the flirtation with Brady, because she had, as the theory goes, no idea he was talking to the Dolphins."

Florio said that many employees of NFL teams have told him that Brady keeping the proposed move a secret from Bundchen is the reason behind the fallout:

"I’m telling you, there are people who are employed by NFL teams who think that. And when you look at the timeline, that stuff came out, and it was the next day he started missing practices."

Florio went on to label this theory about the Buccaneers QB as "reckless speculation" and hinted that the true reason could be something else entirely.
