Doctor calls out Bills for risking Josh Allen's health with "deadly" move after brutal hit vs Texans
Josh Allen finished the game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, but at least one doctor believes he should not have. Allen took a hit to the head when falling to the ground on Sunday against the Texans.
Many braced for him to enter concussion protocol, but after only a brief sighting of backup Mitchell Trubisky, Allen was back in the game.
Taking to X to respond to a claim by Emmanuel Acho that the Bills quarterback was given smelling salts to keep him lucid and alert, doctor Jesse Morse didn't mince words on October 6.
"This should be a HUGE PENALTY and VERY risky for Josh Allen’s health. He could have suffered another concussion which could have caused second impact syndrome, which can be deadly," he posted.
Second impact syndrome is what it sounds like. Per Beaumont Health, it is multiple head injuries sustained before fully healing from the first one. It can usually be fatal. However, those who survive are "usually left severely disabled for life."
Allen stayed in the game for most of the Buffalo Bills' comeback against the Texans, but his team fell short, losing 20-23. As such, the alleged risk taken by the Bills and Allen failed to bear fruit. Allen completed just 30% of his passes for 131 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in the loss.
Josh Allen's passing offense slips behind Miami Dolphins following dangerous losing performance
For most of the 2024 season, the Buffalo Bills offense has been flying high. At least, the offense has been more productive than many had braced for following the loss of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. However, after the Week 5 showing, the team has slipped back into a much slower gear.
Many have spotlighted the Miami Dolphins as an example of an offense struggling to get its feet off the ground following the loss of Tua Tagovialoa. However, following their Week 5 games, Allen's passing offense now ranks behind Miami.
According to ESPN stats, the Bills currently have the 25th-ranked passing offense in average yards per game. Miami, meanwhile, has the 23rd-ranked passing offense.
At this point, aside from getting healthy, the Bills quarterback will need to find a way to get the offense going through the air once again. Will he be able to do so or have the 2024 Bills settled into their ways for the year?
