Dolphins star Tyreek Hill pledges to avoid chasing "selfish" record from 2023 season

Tyreek Hill was a fantasy football phenomenon in 2023. Earning 1,799 yards last year, the Cheetah was a cheat code for fantasy players and the Dolphins offense. However, if the offense doesn't run through Hill in 2024, he is fine with that. Speaking to Palm Beach Post in a Tuesday article, Hill called the idea of a 2000-yard season "selfish:"

“That’d be great, but I feel like at the same time I have to understand that there was the position that I’m in. And me being one of the leaders and just singling out an individual goal like that — because I had time to go look at, talk about it with my family, like, that’s very selfish of me.”

Tyreek Hill earned 119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns last year. His 119 catches, 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns were career records. One year prior, in 2022, he earned similar numbers with the Dolphins. In 2022, he earned 119 catches, 1,710 yards, but seven touchdowns.

Both seasons rank as Hill's top two years in the NFL in terms of production. Most think of Hill as a receiver who built a name in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes. However, the case can be made that Hill has blossomed more with the Dolphins. He hasn't won any championships or had a deep playoff run with his new team, but the Cheetah has objectively produced at a higher clip in Miami than in the mid-west.

Factors stack unfavorably against Tyreek Hill reaching new career heights in 2024

Arguably the biggest star of the Miami Dolphins, Tyreek Hill has set an impressively high bar. However, the higher the bar, the higher the chances of a step back.

Put simply, Hill's age is not his friend. Once receivers hit 30 years old, they start to slow down. Sometimes, this comes in the form of injuries. Other times, the general speed, power and physical abilities decline. Now 30, the receiver is on the clock.

Additionally, one only needs to look at Cooper Kupp, the last receiver who had a season rivaling Hill's. Kupp earned 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2021. However, just one season later, he earned 812 yards. Last year, he earned 737 yards in his age-30 season. Peaks can come, but they also go quickly for every player.
