Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill snubs Joe Burrow, Josh Allen in his top-five NFL QBs list

Tyreek Hill has revealed his list of top five current quarterbacks in the NFL, and neither Joe Burrow nor Josh Allen made the cut. During an Instagram Q&A, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver named the following people in his rankings:

  1. Patrick Mahomes
  2. Tua Tagovailoa
  3. Lamar Jackson
  4. Dak Prescott
  5. Baker Mayfield

The first two are no surprise, being his former and current teammates respectively, and neither is Jackson, the reigning MVP. But Baker Mayfield's appearance is definitely a surprising one. Mayfield had been inconsistent for much of his career before arriving in Tampa Bay, where he set career highs in almost every passing category.

Joe Burrow, meanwhile, has greatly improved from his injury-riddled rookie campaign. In both seasons where he has been healthy, he has reached at least the AFC championship game and made one Pro Bowl. He is the most accurate quarterback in the league, completing 68% of his passing attempts.

Josh Allen has been the primary reason why the Buffalo Bills have been the AFC East's overlords ever since Tom Brady's departure. He has the league's highest-ever postseason quarterback rating (149.0 in 2021), and his 15 rushing touchdowns in 2023-24 are the most at his position in a single season.

Tyreek Hill teasing extension as WR market escalates

As he enters his second season at Miami, Tyreek Hill has seemingly had a turnaround regarding his future. Over a year ago, he had claimed that the $120-million extension that he had signed with the Dolphins would be the last contract of his football career. But recent events have seemingly caused him to recant that notion.

First, it was Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions agreeing to the same extension as him - four years for $120 million. Then A.J. Brown and Hill's fellow Dolphin Jaylen Waddle got three-year extensions of their own, with annual amounts of $32 million and $28.25 million respectively. All of them were signed in the space of just six days.

However, they all pale in comparison to Justin Jefferson, who upended the wide receiver market last month by agreeing to a four-year, $35-million extension. That contract is the biggest not just at his position, but for a non-quarterback as well, surpassing the five-year, $170-million deal that defensive end Nick Bosa received from the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.

Thus, "Cheetah" is now looking for a big extension of his own. Speaking to KPRC2 while doing private workouts with trainer Justin Allen in Houston recently, Tyreek Hill said:

“I’m very excited to just be a part of the old wave, which was $30 million, and Justin Jefferson came and surpassed that, man. Very proud of those guys, obviously my teammate Waddle. That’s great. I’m 30 years old, also looking for a new deal. So, very, very excited to see where I fit into that category.”

For now, however, Tyreek Hill's focus is on the 2024 season, as the Dolphins have not won a playoff game since beating the Indianapolis Colts in 2000.
