What happened to Donda Sports?
Kanye West, owner of Donda Sports agency, recently took a hit with his sports company following his anti-Semitism comments.
Following his comments, other companies that he had ties to/deals with such as Adidas, Balenciaga, Vogue, CAA, Gap, Def Jam, and many other companies have dropped deals and cut ties with the hip-hop artist in the midst of his comments.
Donda Sports was founded by West. The company encompasses athlete representation and is a full-service sports brand that includes apparel, sneakers, and much more. West hired former NFL wide out, Antonio Brown to be the company's man. The Browns released a statement saying that even through the middle of West's issues, he will remain as the President of the company.
Donda Sports clients
Donda Sports is a fairly new sports company and hasn't had many athletes signed to their company. Although they were new and coming up, they did score Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald and Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown.
West has some other athletes signed to him, but Donald and Brown were to represent the company and were looked at as two superstars that would reel in more athletes.
Why did Aaron Donald leave Donda Sports?
Following Kanye's recent comments in the news, Donald and Brown decided to cut ties with the company.
Donald released the following statement:
"Our family has made the decision to part ways with Donda Sports. The recent comments and displays of hate and antisemitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children. We find them to be irresponsible and go against everything we believe as a family."
"As parents and members to society we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must do better as human beings. We do not feel our voices, beliefs, and actions belong anywhere near a space that misrepresents and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity, or race."
Brown also recently cut ties with Kanye and Donda Sports.
Brown said in a following statement:
"In the past 24 hours, I've been able to reflect and better understand how my previous statements lack clarity in expressing my stance against recent insensitive public remarks and actions."
"In light of that, after sharing in conversations, I now recognize that there are times when my voice and position can't coexist in spaces that don't correspond with my stance or my values, And, for that reason, I am terminating my association with Donda Sports."
West lost his two biggest clients and maybe some of his other smaller clients will cut ties with the company as well.
