"Drama, wall to wall" - Tom Brady retirement will overshadow Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl win, Mike Florio claims
Tom Brady retired at the conclusion of the 2022-23 NFL season after playing 23 seasons in the league. It wasn't the biggest surprise as he contemplated retirement last off-season and initially did so before changing his mind.
Entering the off-season, some predicted Brady would retire while others thought he would return for another season.
The legendary quarterback was at the centre of many highlighted news stories this past season.
Pro Football Talk senior analyst Mike Florio spoke with Peter King about Tom Brady's retirement and how he headlined the news during the entire 2023 season.
He said that it started with his training camp absence, divorce, decline in play, and now the news is all about what he does post-retirement.
"For me, it was the entire Tom Brady drama, wall to wall, start to finish, from the training camp absence to the divorce in season, the perceived dip in his play, it seemed like he was constantly creating news. He was the center of the NFL universe, really from the moment training camp opened until the Buccaneers lost to the Cowboys in the wildcard round of the playoffs and then he kept making more news and he continues to make news even after the season ends as all eyes are on Tom Brady and whenever he starts his career as the number one NFL analyst at Fox."
Florio did laud Brady for setting single-season records for the most attempts and completions of all time.
"But you know, there have been plenty of great years for Brady. This was a mixed bag to say the least but he's still, Peter, at the age of 45, set the single-season record for attempts and completions, which is just amazing."
What will Tom Brady do, now that he has retired from the NFL?
At the age of 46, Tom Brady will now get the chance to relax from the game of football.
Last off-season, he signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports to be a sports commentator. He notified the company that he'd like to skip the upcoming offseason and step into the booth in 2024.
Brady also recently released a movie called, '80 for Brady', that hit theatres on February 3, 2023. He'll be able to spend more time with his kids, prepare for his broadcasting gig, and continue his other endeavors post-football.
