Eagles' Darius Slay taken aback by rival Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' stance on CeeDee Lamb's contract: "That's wild!"

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is currently absent from training camp as he holds out for a contract extension. When a player holds out, it usually creates a sense of urgency for the team to get a deal done.

That apparently isn't the case for Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones. The longtime owner was asked on Thursday about Lamb's contract extension.

Jones surprised many when he said that signing Lamb to an extension wasn't something he was rushing to do at the moment. This was a shocking revelation considering CeeDee Lamb is the best weapon on the Cowboys offense.

“I don’t have any urgency to get it done,” Jones said.

The wide receiver re-shared the post with Jerry Jones' comment and simply captioned it "lol." Lamb wasn't the only one who commented on the post though.

Cornerback Darius Slay, who plays for the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, was also astonished by Jones' comments. As someone who faces Lamb and the Cowboys twice a year, Slay said the wide receiver is more than deserving of a lucrative contract.

"That's wild! Bra deserves his bag!!"-Slay wrote on X

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who is headed into the final season of his contract, was asked about Jones' lack of urgency to sign Lamb. The quarterback told reporters that he indeed does have the urgency to get his best offensive weapon back on the field.

What could CeeDee Lamb's contract extension look like?

CeeDee Lamb is headed into the final season of his rookie deal and is in search of a long-term deal with the Dallas Cowboys. When he does get his pay day, he will see a significant raise in his current salary.

The fifth-year option will pay Lamb $17.991 million in 2024. As of right now, Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, selected six picks behind Lamb in the 2020 NFL Draft, is set to make $35 million a season with his new contract. Jefferson's contract extension makes him the highest paid wide receiver in the league.

Jefferson and Lamb have rather similar stats from their first four seasons. Both wide receivers have over 3,000 receiving yards and at least 30 touchdowns. While Lamb may not become the highest paid wide receiver, he is likely set to make around $30-$35 million a season.
