Eagles HC Nick Sirianni breaks silence on rumors of problems with Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a disappointing season. The NFC East franchise lost six of their last seven games to end the previous campaign and were knocked out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wildcard Round.
Eagles head coach, Nick Sirianni, is under a lot of pressure this year, and if the team doesn't make a deep run into the playoffs, he might lose his job. Earlier, some reports indicated that Sirianni's relationship with Hurts is still a work in progress, and it was quite discouraging.
Sirianni recently spoke about it to NFL Network's Jane Slater and said:
"Every relationship needs work the entire time. If you're not working on it, it's not growing. And so, you know, it's great that we're back here at year four together and just continuing to grow our relationship. But I think the world of him. I'm so glad he's our starting quarterback and the leader that he is.
"So, I look forward to this year with him again, year four and just to continue to build on that relationship, but he's, he's been awesome as a leader. He's been awesome on the field and looking forward to the way he can do this season."
Jalen Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million deal with the Eagles last year, and if he has a problem with the head coach, then the franchise is bound to replace the coach. As a result, the upcoming season is crucial for Sirianni. He not only needs to ensure that his team wins games but also has to establish a strong relationship with his quarterback.
The Eagles finished 11-6 last season, but due to a good offseason, they are currently the favorites to win the NFC East ahead of the Dallas Cowboys.
Jalen Hurts could be a sneaky MVP candidate this upcoming season
As mentioned above, the Eagles are the favorites to win the NFC East this year. Since they didn't win their division last year, they also have a much easier schedule. Philadelphia is bound to win more than 11 games this year, and that will put them in touching distance to be the first seed in the NFC.
Jalen Hurts, unlike last year, is fully healthy. He is more motivated than ever to prove his critics wrong and have a good season, as he did in the 2022/2023 NFL season. Currently, he has the seventh-best odds (+1600) to win the MVP award, but based on the factors mentioned, he will have a real chance of winning it.
The Eagles addressed the weak areas of their roster this past offseason, and now it's up to the duo of Hurts and Sirianni to get the best out of the team.
