Eagles HC Nick Sirianni explains heavily memed tearful response to Super Bowl LVII national anthem
The Philadelphia Eagles entered Sunday as the only team left in the NFC. Before the Super Bowl, Nick Sirianni stood on the sidelines and was visibly weeping as the national anthem blared through the speakers in the stadium. NFL fans took the moment to crack jokes and craft memes out of the head coach's reaction.
After the game, he explained why he had such a strong reaction to the moment. According to Pro Football Talk, it was a day decade in the making.
"I’ve dreamed about this since I was two years old. I said to our guys, ‘Some of you guys have been dreaming about this since you’ve been two.'"
Will Jalen Hurts win a Super Bowl in his career?
He continued, explaining that no matter how long each player had dreamed of it, it was here:
"'[Others] of you since you’ve been in peewee football, some of you since high school, college or even when you got to the pros. We’ve all been dreaming of it...’ It’s just emotional in that moment knowing where we were at that moment.”
Eagles lose Super Bowl LVII to Patrick Mahomes
Many people remember how the young Los Angeles Rams looked as veteran Tom Brady stood opposite them in the Patriots-Rams championship game in 2018. At the end of the 2022 season, it appeared to many that the Eagles were in the Rams' spot with the newcomers on stage.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes looked on as the quarterback, who had already been to two and was playing in his third big game. At the end of both Super Bowls, the more experienced quarterback emerged victorious and the newcomers walked away with nothing. Patrick Mahomes fought through injury to put up 38 points, while Philadelphia finished the day with 35 points.
Sean McVay and the Rams eventually managed to return and avenge the loss. Will Nick Sirianni and the Eagles find a way to do the same?
