Eagles HC Nick Sirianni on the hot seat after Jets fire Robert Saleh

Nick Sirianni was on the hot seat after the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl following the 2022 season. Then it seemed like the Eagles were back on track again and started the 2023 season with a strong 10-1 record.

Then everything went downhill. Philly lost six of the last seven games of the season including a heartbreaking blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the NFC Wild Card round.

Despite that, the front office chose to hang on to Sirianni for the 2024 season. Entering Week 6 of the season, the Eagles are 2-2. The New York Jets, on the other hand, recently chose to show Robert Saleh the door after a 20-36 record with the team.

When asked about Saleh's firing, Sirianni told reporters:

"I obviously wish him nothing but the best. I had a good working relationship with coach Saleh, being able to practice against those guys, I’ve got a lot of respect for him. I think he’s a really good football coach, but my mind is set on only: 'How do we get better?'"

Jalen Hurts' remark about Nick Sirianni raises eyebrows

After the team's loss to the Buccaneers in Week 4, Jalen Hurts was asked about his head coach. And the short reply he gave was not something fans were expecting:

"We have our moments."

Fans and analysts dissected the remark and theorized that there was a fracture in the QB and the head coach's relationship. But Hurts disavowed all claims and said that relationship between him and Nick Sirianni is good.

"We’re the two leaders of the team,” Hurts said. “I’m happy and fortunate that we were able to come together in harmony and have the same goal in mind, trying to get this thing right. I got a ton of confidence in him, a ton of confidence in what he brings and everything he’s been able to accomplish."

The Eagles are set to take on the 1-4 Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Browns are struggling with Deshaun Watson at the helm, and the ownership are refusing to bench him for fear that it might mean admitting it was a mistake to sign him to a $230 million contract.

Can Nick Sirianni and the Eagles take advantage of this and improve the .500 record to a winning one? If the team loses again, Sirianni's job will be under further scrutiny.
