Eagles legend Jason Kelce admits underestimating Jayden Daniels' Commanders ahead of NFC title game

Jason Kelce made an admission on Wednesday morning that many NFL fans would likely relate to. On this week's episode of the "New Heights" podcast, he and his brother Travis Kelce discussed the upcoming NFC title game. His beloved Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Washington Commanders this weekend with a shot at suiting up at the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Jason Kelce said that entering the 2024 NFL season, and even throughout the season, he thought the Washington Commanders were contenders, just not this year. The former NFL center said he believed they were building for the future and wouldn't go on a playoff run this year.

Kelce not only credited rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels but also the Commanders defense as well.

"I have not thought the Commanders were ready for this all season. I feel like I always felt like they were a year away. Even with the rookie quarterback playing great, it just felt like they don't have as many talented guys as you would want, and they continually do it. They just have continued to play better.
"I think Dan Quinn, and this is not like a f--king groundbreaking take, what Dan Quinn has done up there with that defense has been nothing short of remarkable. I think he is having those guys play so great right now. It was a huge [win] getting Bobby Wagner this offseason. I really feel like that's accelerated the vision of a lot of things happening on defense." [55:30]

With OC Kliff Kingsbury and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels running the offense, the Washington Commanders went from 4-13 last season to 12-5 this season.

Jason Kelce gave his take on penalties in Chiefs' win over Texans

In the Kansas City Chiefs' win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round on Saturday afternoon, there were a few questionable penalties. There were a few times when it appeared the officiating crew may have favored the Chiefs.

On New Heights, Jason Kelce said that he didn't agree with the roughing the passer call against the Texans in the second half. He understood why the officials called it but, he didn't necessarily agree that Mahomes, who was running with the ball, was in any physical danger on the play.

“I think the second (roughing the passer call) was completely just like absolutely ridiculous. I mean, He didn’t even get touched. They just missed it. I can see what they saw but I don’t think there was that much forcible contact to his head… But I understand why they called it. Just thought it was a bad call.”-Jason Kelce said on the "New Heights" podcast (1:04)

The Kansas City Chiefs will now host their current AFC rivals, the Buffalo Bills, on Sunday in the AFC title game.
