"Even when you f**k up, he makes you right": Travis Kelce on Patrick Mahomes' iconic behind-the-back throw
Travis Kelce once again bowed down to the greatness of Patrick Mahomes. The quarterback has been sensational since stepping into the gridiron. This offseason, he proved that not only can he win games, but he also has some flashy moves up his sleeve.
During Week 2 of preseason, the Kansas City Chiefs were matched up against the Detroit Lions. In one play, Mahomes threw the ball behind his back to connect with his tight end. Now, Kelce reveals the behind-the-scenes story of how this throw and the subsequent catch came to be.
On Wednesday, Travis Kelce premiered Season 3 of his successful podcast "New Heights." As expected, the tight end, along with his brother dove deep into this legendary throw by Mahomes, which left the fans in awe of the QB.
“You have the entire 300-400 plays that you put in and installed in training camp," Kelce said. “Then they take a few of them and put them in the game plan. So, you got to really go over your game plan. I wasn't in tune with the game plan.
“And Pat Mahomes had something in the back of his head when I walked across the line of scrimmages, like, ‘What'd you say?’ That I didn't know what I was doing. So, he was gonna have to make something shake. And that's why we love playing with Pat Mahomes, ladies and gentlemen, because even when you f**k up, he makes you right.” [00:17:01 – 00:17:38]
Travis Kelce further highlighted that many of the plays designed by coach Andy Reid ended up being successful due to Patrick Mahomes.
