Ex-Chiefs center blasts NFL insider's "sh*#ty take" on $25,600,000 Harrison Butker contract

Harrison Butker has had a roller-coaster of an offseason. However, the Chiefs kicker is receiving criticism for his massive contract extension and a former Chiefs player has taken his side.

The Kansas City Chiefs made Butker the highest-paid kicker in the history of the league by signing him to a 4-year deal worth $25.6 million. Former ESPN and current Pro Football Network insider Trey Wingo did not approve of this. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his views:

“The Harrison Butker extension… making him the highest paid kicker….underscores the inherent truth of the NFL: the better you are at the job the more a team is willing to put up with pure and simple.”

While Trey Wingo did not hit directly at the Chiefs or Butker, his comments regarding the nature of the NFL did not sit well with the former Chiefs center Tim Grunhard, who called out Wingo on X.

“Trey … that’s a shitty take! You may not agree with everything he says and believes in but the last I looked Harrison didn’t violating the league's personal conduct and substance abuse policies… probably why you got axed from ESPN … but you got some attention again there’s that!”

After working for 13 years with ESPN, the broadcasting giants did not renew Wingo’s contract in 2020. Since then, Wingo has appeared in a lot of things including a podcast with PFN. This was used as ammo by the Pro Bowler in his takedown of Wingo while defending Butker.

Harrison Butker took a shot at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony

The NFL fans were surprised at the Chiefs awarding Harrison Butker, with a huge contract after the controversial statements in May. The kicker did not stop from sticking to his Catholic faith and called out the opening ceremony at the Paris Olympics in his Instagram story.

“This is crazy,” Butker said.

Butker also added a line from the Bible, Galatians 6:7.

“Be not deceived, God is not mocked.”
