Ex-Legion of Boom member argues against Josh Allen as MVP over Lamar Jackson - "You question it"
Over the next two weeks, the debate about which of Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson deserves to be named the MVP of the 2024 season will be the key storyline. Unlike in previous years, there's no clear answer as to which player should win the award, sparking a healthy dose of debate.
There are good arguments for both sides, but Richard Sherman feels like there's no doubt about who really should win the award. Using Allen's exhibition against the New England Patriots, the former Seahawks cornerback stated that Lamar should be the MVP for the third time:
This was a game Josh Allen needed to be Josh Allen, and he wasn't. And his defense stepped up enough, and made enough plays to help him get the win. Games like this happen. And when they happen, you question it through. 154 yards this game, a touchdown and an interception. Ran it for 28 yards. You keep saying he has no help behind him, and then you look up. and [James] Cook is having 100-yard games after 100-yard games. And you're like "wait a minute, is it no help or is it help?" MVPs are won in December. I don't think a quarterback has had 35 plus touchdowns and under five interceptions thrown on the season like Lamar Jackson has and not won it.
The Bills have already locked the AFC East and currently sit with a 12-3 record, while the Ravens are 10-5 and are locked in a close battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have the same record, for the AFC North crown.
Remaining games for Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson in the MVP race
Allen: vs. New York Jets, at New England Patriots
Jackson: at Houston Texans, vs. Cleveland Browns
Lamar has 67.9% of completed passes, 3,787 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 2024. Those are all career highs for him and there are still two games left to play this season. Allen, for his part, has 63.8% of completed passes, 3,549 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
Jackson is a two-time MVP, while Allen has never won the award. This could be an important thing to determine who will prevail, as voters could vote for the Bills quarterback with this being possibly the first time he wins it.
