Ex-NFL QB comes to CeeDee Lamb's defense as footage of Dak Prescott's INT goes viral
Former Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci took to X to defend his former teammate, Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb. This was after Lamb faced online criticism for a perceived lack of effort in his recent game against the 49ers.
DiNucci posted on X:
“Just curious - what effort is he supposed to make here? He’s falling away to the sidelines. Impossible for him to make a play on this ball.”
Though the game ended in a 30-24 victory for the 49ers, an incident during the match triggered reactions from Cowboys fans and critics alike. Many took to social media to criticize Lamb’s attempt to catch a pass from QB Dak Prescott, which was intercepted by DB Deommodore Lenoir.
NFL reporter Ed Werder didn’t hold back in calling out Lamb for his poor attempt, posting:
"Never seems CeeDee Lamb makes much of an effort to prevent INT when Dak makes poor throw.”
In the footage released by the NFL’s official account, Lamb is seen standing behind Lenoir, who casually jumped to intercept the ball, despite a 4-inch height difference. However, Werder did acknowledge in his post that Prescott’s throw was indeed poor.
In Lamb’s defense, DiNucci noted that Lamb was in no position to catch the ball near the sidelines, as his body was off balance. Nevertheless, the wide receiver did make some effort to pull Lenoir down by grabbing his shoulders and helmet.
Dak Prescott acknowledges his poor INT record
Interestingly, fans online were more critical of Prescott than Lamb. Many blamed Prescott’s poor throw, with some openly questioning his $60 million price tag.
Prescott, on a $60 million annual deal with the Cowboys, has gained notoriety among fans for his inconsistent throws.
In 2024 alone, he has thrown eight interceptions, averaging 1.1 per game — 10% of his career total of 80 interceptions. A closer look at his stats reveals that approximately 42 of these interceptions have occurred since 2021.
Despite the online debates, Prescott likely knows the truth better than anyone else. After the game, he acknowledged his poor throws and took responsibility for the loss, concluding with:
"Not turn the ball over, period."
The Cowboys next face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Prescott and Lamb will look for better connections in that contest.
