Ex-NFL RB questions Brock Purdy's expensive gifts for Niners DL after unimpressive season
Brock Purdy made headlines this week after gifting his San Francisco 49ers offensive linemen brand-new Toyota trucks worth a total of $650,000 for Christmas. This came despite his own earnings of $900,000 this year.
However, not everyone felt the gift was warranted. During Friday's installment of "The Facility Group Chat," former running back LeSean McCoy questioned the decision, particularly since he believes the offensive line has not been performing well.
“This is what I don’t get with Purdy though. Respect because I like what he’s doing, but what are you buying these guys this for? It ain’t like they’re blocking for you. It ain’t like y’all doing good. They’re not even doing good.”
In a heartwarming video, Brock Purdy surprised his offensive linemen with brand-new white trucks topped with red Christmas bows, expressing his gratitude for their hard work and support.
Brock Purdy and the 49ers in desperation mode in Week 16
The reigning NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers, are almost out of postseason contention with a 6-8 record. San Francisco has less than a 1% chance to qualify for the playoffs, according to NFL.com. It’s been that kind of season for the 49ers, who have been plagued by injuries, inconsistency and missed opportunities.
Despite the team’s struggles, Brock Purdy has put together a respectable campaign, throwing for 3,174 yards (15th in the league), 15 touchdowns (tied-19th), and maintaining a solid QBR of 65.3 (11th). However, with 9 interceptions (tied-81st), there’s room for improvement.
The 49ers face a challenging remaining schedule and have to win out to have any real hope of making the playoffs. They travel to face the Dolphins, host the Lions, and go to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Niners will need a lot of help to make it, involving an unlikely scenario of multiple teams losing multiple games.
A win from any of their NFC West rivals means the West is unwinnable for San Francisco. Making matters worse, the 49ers will be eliminated from wild-card contention if any of these combinations of teams win this week:
- Rams & Seahawks
- Seahawks & Commanders
- Cardinals & Commanders
- Falcons, Buccaneers & any NFC West team
Meanwhile, Brock Purdy will aim to finish the season strong. Though the playoffs are almost out of reach, Purdy will try to ensure the 49ers do their part and hope the rest falls into place.
