Ex-Raiders DE puzzled by questions from Taylor Swift's fans on Travis Kelce's decline
NFL fans have cast doubt on Travis Kelce's ability to be the top offensive weapon in the Kansas City Chiefs offense. The team and quarterback Patrick Mahomes have acknowledged the need to get their tight end more opportunities to make plays but, that hasn't stopped the criticism.
Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Isaac Rochell, who also has a large following on TikTok, shared a video defending Kelce and his play this season. Rochell said that while the stat line may not stand out through the first three weeks, Kelce's life on and off the field is the best it could be.
“Travis Kelce’s having the best season he’s ever had. I know Brads and Chads get so into stats and all that. I get it, it’s a stat game. But let’s talk about the bigger picture. Also side note why are so many Swifties reporting on this. It’s a great time to be a girl dad because my daughter can be a Swiftie and love football. The reason I’m saying Travis Kelce is having the best season he’s ever had is look at the Chiefs, they’re undefeated. What’s more important? Travis Kelce literally has a dream relationship, he’s made great money, he’s got one of the best podcasts in sports. And he’s a great football player and his team’s undefeated. He’s trying to win championships! He’s not worried about being the leading receiver on the team."-said Isaac Rochell
Isaac Rochell then finished by saying that in terms of football, Kelce is seen as the best option in the Chiefs' passing game. Opposing defenses often increase their coverage on the tight end which limits his production.
“When Travis Kelce has the years he’s had and he goes into a season like this, he’s gonna be double and triple-teamed. It totally changes their offense.”said Rochell
Travis Kelce isn't getting 'caught up' in lack of offensive action
Through the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Travis Kelce has just eight catches for 69 yards and has yet to find the end zone. On this week's episode of his "New Heights" podcast, he told his brother Jason Kelce that he isn't worried about his slow start.
Kelce also gave credit to quarterback Patrick Mahomes for getting the offense down the field.
"Whatever it is, it's football, baby. Come on now. I'm not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that. I just want to have a successful offense. I think Pat's doing a great job of finding the open guy and making the right decisions right now. We just have to keep finding… It's a new offense, new players, new pieces, and we're just finding how to have success throughout the season," Kelce said.
The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to win an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title. Kelce seems to trust that his impact will come and that right now it's just about winning football games.
