What happened to Bruce Arians? Former Buccaneers HC reveals he spent four days in hospital following severe chest pains

Bruce Arians, the Super Bowl-winning former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recently revealed that he had a health scare in October. Arians said that he spent four days in hospital last month with severe chest pains. Thankfully, Arians is fine, back at home, and seems to be doing well.

According to JoeBucsFan, Arians described the incident as follows:

“On the night before the Atlanta game, we had a house full of people. We ate and I got these pains way up here, like two knives going in. I took some TUMS, thinking it was indigestion, but it just got worse. I called Christine back to the bedroom and said I can’t shake this pain. We called 911 and they put me on a stretcher to Tampa General.”

He didn't have a heart attack, as was feared at the time. Instead, he was diagnosed with myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart muscle. According to Arians, there were no blockages or any indications of heart disease. He was prescribed medication and discharged several days later.

Since then, Arians has attended two Buccaneers home games and seems to otherwise be back to his normal routine, including leveling criticism at Tom Brady. He will doubtless be pleased with the turnaround in recent times in Tampa Bay, as the Buccaneers have won their last two fixtures.

In 2012, Bruce Arians made his head coaching debut with the Indianapolis Colts in relief of Chuck Pagano. In 2013, he was hired to be the permanent head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. With Arizona, he finished .500 or better four times between then and 2017. After taking 2018 off, he returned to the NFL and joined the Buccaneers.

In 2020, Tom Brady came to town and the two went 24-9 over the course of the next two seasons and also won a Super Bowl in February 2021. Arians has a career record of 80-48-1 in the regular season and went 6-3 in the postseason.

Arians stepped away from the field after the 2021 NFL season and joined the team's front office. His defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles, took over for the team as head coach in Bruce Arians' stead.
