“This not smart” – Former Bucs All-Pro slams Jalen Carter’s decision to cold shoulder NFL teams

Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter is taking an interesting approach ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Carter has reportedly turned down visits from teams outside of the top 10. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted:

"Georgia DT Jalen Carter is visiting the Bears today. It is his second visit, with him already having visited the Eagles. Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said he is declining visit requests for any team drafting outside the top 10 picks. 'I’m confident Jalen will go in the top 10', Rosenhaus said. 'He’s a good person, a family man, loves football and is a generational talent.'”

This caused former Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro defensive lineman Gerald McCoy to voice his opinion on Carter's decision.

"Whether he is expected to be top 10 or not, his recent circumstance and his workouts, this not smart. Also, you never know who may want to trade up. Don’t assume with the draft. We’ve seen some crazy things happen."

The projected first-round draft pick got into some trouble days after winning the national championship. Carter was arrested for reckless driving and racing, resulting in the deaths of teammate Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy.

Following the incident, many thought Carter will slide a little in the draft. He was once projected to be the first-overall pick, but now, he could go anywhere in the first round.

McCoy brings up a good point that teams outside the top 10 could trade up and select him. It's not the smartest idea to turn down visits from other teams, especially if he starts to slide out of the top 10.

This decision could cause him to slide further as the teams who could potentially take him wouldn't feel comfortable if they didn't visit him.

According to other reports, multiple teams have taken Carter off of their draft boards.

It looks like Carter won't be facing any jail time and won't receive a major punishment for this incident.

During his time with the Georgia Bulldogs, he became a two-time national champion, unanimous All-American, a first-team All-SEC, second-team All-SEC, and was one of the nation's best DTs.
