Former Eagles All-Pro defends Jalen Hurts after QB facing fire despite 37-17 win over Bengals
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles have had their ups and downs so far this season. After a 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals this past week, one former NFL running back doesn't feel that Hurts is getting the credit he deserves.
On Wednesday's episode of FS1's "The Facility", former All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy, said Hurts deserves more respect when he and the Eagles are playing well. McCoy said that when the team is struggling, everyone is quick to place blame on the quarterback yet, that same type of energy isn't used when he is leading his team to victory.
"When we watch Hurts, let's be respectful when we grade him as much as when he's playing bad, we want to bash him, but when he's playing good, can we give him praise? Because he deserves it. I think the biggest issue we're not looking at is AJ Brown wasn't there... This is the Jalen Hurts that's gonna take us to the Super Bowl. AJ Brown wide receiver and you look at Saquon Barkley," LeSean McCoy said
LeSean McCoy also noted that weapons like AJ Brown and Saquon Barkley also help to bring production to the offense.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts said he learned from mistakes made in 2023
The Philadelphia Eagles collapsed last season and went from NFC East division winners to barely getting a wild card spot. The Eagles then lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round and speculation that perhaps changes were coming floated around social media.
The Eagles didn't make a change at head coach or quarterback and have decided to try and figure things out. After starting with a 2-2 record this season, three straight wins now have them at 5-2 and one game behind the division-leading Washington Commanders.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts sat down with NBC's Mike Florio this week and told him that learning from the mistakes he made last season has allowed him to grow this season.
“Well, I’ll tell you this, a fool isn’t a fool because they made a mistake, a fool is a fool because they refuse to learn from it and I’m going to learn,” Hurts said. “I’ve always prided myself on learning from my mistakes, learning from my experiences, good, bad or indifferent. And I think our season last year from my vantage point is something I’ve learned a ton from and I think it’s benefited us now and I think we will continue to benefit from that,” Jalen Hurts told Mike Florio
In Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Hurts completed 16 of 20 passes for a total of 236 yards and a passing touchdown. He also rushed for 37 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the win.
