EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Falcons HC Mike Smith reckons all four teams from one NFC division will make it to the playoffs
Throughout 11 weeks in the NFL season, there have been two dominant divisions. One of them is the NFC East. The NFC East is one of two divisions with all four teams holding winning records.
The Philadelphia Eagles sit at the top of the division at 9-1. The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants are both 7-3. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are 6-5.
The division has a combined record of 29-12.
In an exclusive interview, former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith spoke with Sportskeeda and gave a bold take on the NFC East division.
Smith thinks the division could have every team make the playoffs.
Smith said:
"We've gone to the seventeen game schedule. This is the second year of it. Now with a 17-game schedule, we could potentially have all four teams from one division in the playoffs. And it's not out of the realm that all four teams in the NFC East can make the playoffs.
"Just think about it the Eagles you know, with the Eagles lost now they only have a half game lead over the Giants. You know, here's the team that we're talking about maybe going 16 and 0, going undefeated. Nobody expected them to lose. They lose their first game to the fourth best team in the division."
Smith added that he thinks, at least, three teams (Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants) will make the playoffs.
Smith added:
"And they've got a three-game lead over the last place team. So from one to three. The Redskins are only three games out that first place. There's been a lot of teams that have come back from three games out. This could happen. We have the NFC East two teams in the playoffs. If the ball falls and the games fall the right way the Commanders could get in, I think three of them are going for sure.
"I think, you know, Cowboys, Giants and Eagles are in and hey and if the Commanders played pretty good ball coming down the stretch, they got a really good chance it could be the first time in history that all four teams from one division are in the playoffs."
The AFC East could also see all of their teams make the playoffs
The NFC East isn't the only competitive division in football. All four teams have a winning record and are all close to one another for the AFC East title. The divsion has a combined record of 26-14.
The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills are tied at 7-3 with Miami owning the tiebreaker, while the New England Patriots and New York Jets are in third and fourth place at 6-4.
All four teams could realistically make the the playoffs if they keep winning more games. While that is unlikely, there will certainly be, at least, two playoff teams coming out of the AFC East.
