Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum roped in to look for Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas' replacements: Report
The New York Jets had a tough few weeks after they fired coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. DC Jeff Ulbrich was promoted to interim head coach, Phil Savage was onboarded as interim GM.
However, if the team could previously claim despite not being able to win games they had one of the strongest defenses in the league, even thier defense has started to fail them of late since Ulbrich took on additional responsibilities and defensive mastermind Saleh was kicked out.
The organization has reportedly roped in Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman to assist in the search to fill the interim positions. Tannenbaum had previosuly served as the Jets' GM from 2006 - 2012. He currently owns a sports "think tank", The 33rd Team. This company will be repsonsible for "data analysis and experience" for the GM and HC hunt.
Spielman helped the Washington Commanders when they were looking for a GM and coaches last year, and will be leading the project for The 33rd Team. Jets owner Woody Johnson will be supervising the entire process as Spielman and Tannenbaum vet and conduct reference checks on possible candidates.
The oganization is probably in safe hands as the team made it to the playoffs thrice under Tannenbaum. Fast forward to 2024, and they're the team across the four major US sports with the longest playoff drought.
Will the Jets undergo a change at QB position as well after 2025?
WIth speculation growing that the Jets might not stick with Aaron Rodgers after the current season, former Jets QB Brett Favre, who also played for the Packers, just like Rodgers, said that it was highly unlikely.
"What I know about Aaron is he's an ultra competitor and no one wants to go out either injured like he did last year or playing the way he and the team has played this year," Favre said. "Up to this point, it's been a disappointment. I think a Jets fan would say that and so would the players."
While it's unclear whether Rodgers will even play in the NFL after the current season, it's unlikely he would retire after this kind of season.
