Former Jets RT takes Aaron Rodgers to trial in response to QB blaming media for SNF dud
Aaron Rodgers' Jets' showdown with Steelers might have been one of the most unique games in NFL history. Both teams featured quarterbacks who had a stiff rivalry in a different conference. Also, the showdown was set in primetime months in advance.
Despite the unique buildup to the game, the result was obvious long before the end of the contest. The Jets went into halftime with a lead and failed to score again for the rest of the game.
Rodgers faced the music in a clip via 'Get Up', but his assessment of what went wrong irked former Jets right tackle Damien Woody. But first, here's what Rodgers said when asked what needs to change.
"Stop listening to you guys. Number one, number two, gotta be accountable. You know, I gotta play better. That's the key. I gotta play better," he said. [0:00]
Woody responded to the post-game press conference on Monday's edition of 'Get Up':
"Aaron Rodgers, that's the thing that just frustrates me so much. This organization has basically given you the keys to the kingdom. Okay, and at the end of the day, you gonna, you gonna talk about the media like we had something to do with that pi**-poor performance that y'all put on," he said. ... [0:40]
"You know the stakes in that game, and now you're sitting here 2-5. How in the hell are y'all flat? You know why you're flat? Because of you and other players in that locker room. Where is the leadership in that locker room? I'm not seeing it," he added.
Rodgers threw for one touchdown and two interceptions in the contest, his second multi-interception game in three weeks. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson, after a largely unproductive quarter, began to hit his mark. Wilson ended the game with three total touchdowns and zero turnovers.
Aaron Rodgers on pace for worst interception total in 20-year career
The quarterback of the New York Jets wrote the book on how to avoid turnovers. However, Jets fans may ask him to thumb through a few chapters this week following his slump in October. Rodgers has thrown five interceptions in three games following a relatively clean September.
Following Week 7, Aaron Rodgers has thrown for 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, or now one interception per game on average. At that rate, he will have 17 interceptions by the end of the regular season.
This would be the most he has ever had in his career. Of course, if his touchdown totals maintain their pace, the quarterback will avoid the feared sub-1:1 ratio that most struggling quarterbacks put out.
Will another week of work with Davante Adams and some practice with the new-look offense help the Jets settle into a more productive groove? On the other hand, could the slip turn into a rolling tumble off a cliff?
