Former Jets tackle takes sides with Malik Nabers’ borderline insubordinate comments
Malik Nabers turned heads with his legs and his hands in the preseason. Now, he's turning heads with his mouth. The Giants' crown jewel on offense saw the 30-7 score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and didn't take it quietly. Speaking in a clip provided by "Get Up," the wide receiver appeared to point the finger at the head coach in public comments.
"Go out there for a second don't get the ball and start getting targeted at the end," Nabers said. "Can't do that. [If] I start getting the ball when it's 30-0 what [do] you want me to do?" [01:30:01:39]
He was then asked why he wasn't targeted early.
"I don't know got to speak with Daboll about that," Nabers added. Obviously ... same outcome when we had [Daniel Jones] at quarterback. Take a look. It ain't the quarterback. [01:43:01:59].
In response, former Jets player Damien Woody sided with Nabers.
"Well, he's spitting facts right now," Woody said. "Like literally you're talking about a guy who's frustrated. The fact that he was like, 'look, it was like 30 to nothing. Then he wants to try to start feeding me the ball. Like, what the hell are we doing right now?'" [02:10:02:22].
The Giants' blowout loss comes in the wake of Daniel Jones being released. Jones started the Week 12 buildup as a member of the team but was subsequently benched, knocked into the fourth spot on the depth chart, and released.
Tommy DeVito got the start against the Buccaneers despite his status as the team's third-string quarterback and was nearly shut out by a Tampa Bay defense ranked in the bottom three in average yards surrendered per game. Put simply, things are not going well in the Big Apple.
Malik Nabers eyeing quick turnaround against Thanksgiving opponent
The New York Giants wide receiver might be unhappy today but doesn't have much time to stew on the loss. With Thanksgiving just days away, the wide receiver has an opportunity to give fans a great impression on one of the biggest regular season stages in sports.
The Giants will square off against the Dallas Cowboys in the Cowboys' traditional game on Thanksgiving. The game will take place at 4:30 PM EST and will be effectively a primetime matchup with much of America tuning in, including non-traditional football viewers.
The Giants have an opportunity to make an impression on those tuning in for perhaps one of their only football games of the year. As such, Nabers has a shot to elevate his fame considerably with one big game against Cooper Rush's unit.
Of course, that can only happen if Tommy DeVito throws him the ball early and often, regardless of the matchup or coverage. The Dallas Cowboys proved they can score 30 with Rush, so the Giants may have no choice but to feed the receiver.
Will Nabers deliver on the biggest stage of his career to this point?
