Former Lions QB delivers scorching review of Dak Prescott’s Cowboys as nosedive continues
Dan Orlovsky, along with Rex Ryan, was invited to ESPN’s "GET UP" show with Mike Greenberg. During the show, the former Lions QB delivered a harsh reality check for the Dallas Cowboys, calling them a "sloppy" team.
Earlier in the show, Greenberg shared a clip of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones speaking to the media before the mid-season trade deadline.
Jones attempted to reassure fans that the team would take all necessary steps to improve their performance. The five-time Super Bowl champions are currently 3-5 this season after finishing their last three seasons 12-5.
However, Orlovsky wasn’t convinced by Jones’ statements and bluntly criticized their performance.
“They’re sloppy, they’re poorly coached, they’re undisciplined, and they’re a sub-par talented football team,” he said.
He then highlighted his point by showing footage from a Cowboys-Falcons game, which the Cowboys lost 27-21. He explained how the Falcons found easy routes due to poor man-marking by the Cowboys.
“That’s sloppy, undisciplined, that’s poorly prepared and poorly coached, and then the talent doesn’t cover up for that. That’s who they are as a football team right now.”
The Cowboys’ stats reflect the truth in Orlovsky’s statement, as they have some of the worst numbers this season. They rank 20th in PPG (21.4), 19th in pass completion percentage (63.5%), 10th in pass TDs (12) and 31st in rushing YPG (82).
Rex Ryan agreed with Orlovsky’s assessment but added a bit of humor, saying:
“If you’re a Cowboys fan, you gotta be excited because your defense just plays below average, which is a great improvement over the way it’s been all season.”
Their former defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, has moved to the Commanders, who are doing well defensively.
Dak Prescott adds injury to insult
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also acknowledged the team’s struggles, admitting his frustrations with the performances so far.
“Obviously frustrated, obviously disappointed. … Thought we could get this, set up well for us, yeah, didn’t get it done,” Prescott said, following their loss to the Falcons.
This was their third straight loss and the team’s first such streak since 2020. Although they have made the playoffs in the last three seasons, the chances look bleak now.
Prescott has also been added to the injured list with a hamstring strain. The team is already missing Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland, DeMarcus Lawrence, Marshawn Kneeland, Sam Williams, Brandin Cooks and almost Trevon Diggs.
