Former NFL QB demands Broncos bench Russell Wilson for remainder of 2022 season after embarrassing blowout loss against Rams
Russell Wilson suffered what many would agree to be the worst loss of his career on Christmas Day. After a painful season in which many pundits took verbal jabs at the quarterback, one is calling for the team to take drastic action. Speaking on Get Up, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky pressured the team to end the quarterback's season prematurely:
"They should bench Russell. He needs to be done this year mentally. Yesterday was such a disaster... We just saw the clip, like him being on the sidelines... down 45 points. They got to give him a mental reset and move on from this season. This season has been an abject disaster. This guy has gone from [being a] Hall of Famer to 'you have to be on the bench.'"
The Denver Broncos exited Christmas Day 4-11 after losing to the Los Angeles Rams 51-14. Late in the game, both teams rested their starting quarterbacks. Wilson was spotted on the sidelines with his helmet on while backup quarterback Brett Rypien took the final minutes of action. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired the following day, according to Tom Pelissero.
QB Russell Wilson suffers second epic blowout at the hands of Los Angeles Rams
As painful as the blowout loss to the Rams was, long-time Russell Wilson fans were given a dose of deja vu. Back in 2017, the Rams and Seahawks faced each other on December 17. Seattle was 8-6 and the Rams were 10-4, but the final score didn't indicate a somewhat close season record.
The Rams won 42-7 in a game played in Seattle. The Seahawks quarterback threw for 142 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Meanwhile, then-Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for 120 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The defense shut down the Seahawks while running back Todd Gurley stole the show, racking up 152 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
