Former NFL QB suggests Jalen Hurts is a fraud: “If you put Gardner Minshew on the Eagles, they'd still be really good”
Jalen Hurts is having the best season of his NFL career, and it isn't close. The young successor to Carson Wentz is reliving his predecessor's breakout season at the top of the NFC playoff picture.
However, one NFL analyst isn't buying it. While speaking on Pro Football Talk, Chris Simms credited the quarterback's surrounding firepower for serving the source of the team's success over the quarterback.
Here's how he put it:
"That's why Hurts will not be my MVP vote for sure… [the team has] arguably the best duo at receiver not named Waddle and Tyreek Hill and it's not that far off from them. It's a really good tight end in Dallas Goedert when he's out there [doing the work]."
He continued, refusing to put him in the same conversation as Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen:
"There's just no way he's more valuable to his team than Mahomes, Burrow, or Allen... They're not the same teams if they don't have them at quarterback. If you put Gardner Minshew on the Eagles, they'd still be really damn good. I'm sorry."
How Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has performed in 2022 through 13 games
Jalen Hurts played in four games in 2020, going 1-3 and throwing for six touchdowns and four interceptions. In 2021, he went 8-7 in 15 games and threw for 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. In 2022, he has already set career records in multiple categories.
Through 13 games, Hurts has thrown for 22 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 68 percent of his passes. With Sunday's game, he also eclipsed his career-best total of throwing yards with 3,157. In terms of win-loss, he has already clinched a career record. If he were to lose out, he would finish at 12-5.
Will the quarterback finish strong down the stretch or hit a wall, paving the way for the 10-3 Cowboys to steal the division from them?
