Former Panthers CB lobbies for Cam Newton’s return to Carolina

Cam Newton displayed his skills at Bank of America Stadium with the Carolina Panthers for 10 seasons across two stints. Former cornerback Lou Young wants to see Newton in action for Carolina again and urged the front office to make it happen.

Newton was drafted by the Panthers as the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Under Newton’s leadership, the team had several successful seasons, even playing in the 2016 Super Bowl.

Young hosted Newton’s podcast "The Fourth and 1" amid the QB’s absence. When it was revealed to him that the Panthers had not been awarded a single prime-time game in the upcoming season, the comedian did not shy away from letting his feelings be known.

“It ain't been a lot of it ain't been a lot of glitz and glamour since that boy,” Young said.

Young suggested that the Panthers' lack of star power in the absence of Cam Newton rendered them unworthy of prime-time games in the eyes of the NFL.

“Panthers I mean wake up and smell the coffee man and put my man back in the building to help," Young said. "They need some help listen I know it cost a lot to get this guy. If they promise them (fans) that Cam Newton is going to be there, game one, they might have a Prime-Time game.”

Though Newton's fan base cannot be overlooked, the Panthers' avoidance of prime-time spots could partly be attributed to their league-worst 2-15 record last season.

Is Cam Newton the Michael Jordan of Carolina?

While Lou Young called on the Panthers to recruit Newton for the third time, he also compared the quarterback's effect to that of NBA legend Michael Jordan in Chicago.

“Look at Chicago right; there hasn't been an aura in Chicago since Michael Jordan let's be real,” Young said.
“I don't know if there can be another Cam Newton in Carolina,” Young added.

For now, the Panthers have chosen to stick with their QB, Bryce Young for the upcoming season.
